A plan to dump nearly 330,000 cubic yards of sand near Imperial Beach's shore has been indefinitely postponed after being trimmed down, reported the Union-Tribune. Imperial Beach agreed to accept the sand from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in February, but permit delays and complications have resulted in a smaller project--about 100,000 cubic yards of sand further away from the coast.  The federal project has now been delayed. The Army Corps of Engineers hopes it can bring the sand to Imperial Beach by next spring.

Plans to demolish the 48-year-old Seacoast Inn in Imperial Beach and replace it with a luxury resort have been put on hold because the developer cannot find financing, reported the Union-Tribune. Developer Ash Israni of Pacifica Cos. met with city officials and indefinitely postponed the beachfront hotel project, which was based on a hotel-condominium model. There has been a series of lawsuits with other hotel-condominium projects; those have led to the scaring off of potential financial firms.

The Imperial Beach City Council has approved an ordinance that permits construction of a skate park, prohibits unsafe skating, and allows violators to pay fines rather than having the previously mandated jury trial, according to the Union-Tribune. The City Council voted unanimously last week to amend its municipal code to increase skater safety and decrease the city's liabilities in preparation for a new skate park.
